PIERRE – Pierre Governor Football will start its bid for a fifth straight 11AA championship Friday with a potentially very difficult season opener at Harrisburg. The Governors will return a few standouts from 2020, including quarterback Lincoln Kienholz, but Pierre will field a relatively young team. Harrisburg is the number-one team in the media preseason 11AAA poll after losing to Brandon Valley in last year’s 11AAA championship game.
Head Coach Steve Steele said that the biggest difference for the Governors from last year is a smaller offensive line.
Steele said that Pierre is young, but good, at the offensive skill positions.
The Governors are a bit undersized defensively, but Steele said that shouldn’t be a detriment.
Steele said that Harrisburg has plenty of depth and talent.
Steele said that the Pierre defense will have a challenge in trying to slow down Harrisburg quarterback Jacob Knuth, who has committed to play at the University of Minnesota.
Pierre will play Friday at Harrisburg, with coverage beginning at 5:30 on the Official Voice of the Pierre Governors, River 92.7, with Brian Oakland calling the action. Live and archived video and audio will be available at the River 92.7 page at the DRG News app and at drgnews.com.
