A San Jose, California, man convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance has received his punishment from a U.S. District Judge in South Dakota.
Michael George Sequeira, age 37, was sentenced to 135 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
The conviction stemmed from incidents beginning at an unknown date and continuing until on or about December of 2019, when Sequeira knowingly and intentionally combined, conspired, confederated, agreed with others to distribute a mixture or substance containing 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, which is a Schedule II controlled substance. At the time Sequeira voluntarily joined in the agreement, he knew the purpose of said agreement. Sequeira provided over 500 grams of methamphetamine to his co-conspirators in South Dakota, who then would redistribute it to drug customers in South Dakota.
This case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department, and the Sioux Falls Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer D. Mammenga prosecuted the case.
Sequeira was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
