PIERRE – Pierre Governor Soccer failed to win in its varsity matches against Yankton Tuesday at the PILC Soccer Complex.
The Governor girls did earn a point, but had to settle for a 0-0 draw. Pierre outshot Yankton 9-2, but Gazelles’ goalkeeper Ashlyn Vogt made six saves.
Yankton’s boys controlled the game from the start in a 5-0 win over Pierre. Brayden Bietz and Zach Hebda scored on headers in the first eight minutes. Alexander Nockels, Gage Becker and Sam Huber all scored in the last three minutes. Pierre goalkeeper Carson Ahartz made seven saves, but the Governors were outshot 18-7.
The Governor girls are now 7-3-1 and the boys are 6-4-1. Both teams will host Sioux Falls Jefferson Saturday at the PILC Soccer Complex. Both matches can be seen online starting at 1:00 PM Saturday at the River 92.7 page at the DRG News app and at drgnews.com.
