A former employee of an assisted living center has pleaded not guilty to several charges against him.
Gavin Dean Hunter Rosenau, 19, of Sturgis, is accused of stealing checks from an 87-old resident, writing them out to himself and signing them off the victim’s account.
Rosenau is charged with five counts of forgery, one count for each of five different checks he allegedly wrote to himself.
Each count is a Class 5 felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
The indictment also charges him with grand theft.
Rosenau, who was an employed by Garden Hills Assisted Living in Spearfish, has since been fired.
Rosenau is free on $5,000 cash or surety.
Rosenau is scheduled to appear in court again Oct. 7, 2021.
