Other spring wheat production in South Dakota for 2021 is estimated at 17.1 million bushels, down 52% from last year, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The 2021 area harvested for grain, at 590,000 acres, is down 22% from 2020. Producers planted 720,000 acres, down 6% from 2020. Yield, at 29.0 bushels per acre, is down 18.0 bushels from 2020.
Winter wheat production is estimated at 27.4 million bushels, down 21% from last year. The area harvested for grain totaled 720,000 acres, up 20% from 2020. Planted acreage totaled 800,000 acres, up 27% from a year earlier. The yield is 38.0 bushels per acre, down 20.0 bushels
from 2020.
Barley production is estimated at a record low 280,000 bushels, down 55% from 2020. Area harvested for grain, at 14,000 acres, is unchanged from last year. Planted acreage totaled 30,000 acres, down 14% from 2020. Average yield is 20.0 bushels per acre, down 24.0 bushels from last year.
Oat production is estimated at 3.75 million bushels, down 65% from 2020. Area harvested for grain, at 56,000 acres, is down 60% from last year. Planted acreage totaled 215,000 acres, down 31% from a year earlier. Yield, at 67.0 bushels per acre, is down 10.0 bushels per acre from last
year.
