HURON – Second-day improvement helped the Pierre Governors to a tie for sixth Tuesday in the SDHSAA Boys Class AA State Golf Tournament at Broadland Creek Golf Course.
The Governors improved from shooting 330 Monday to 311 on Tuesday. Three birdies helped Sawyer Sonnenschein to a 73 Tuesday (83 Monday) and a tie for 13th individually at 156. Luke Olson finished tied for 16th at 157 (78-79). Nick Bothun shot 160 (81-79). Lincoln Houska fired a 168 (88-80). Jonathan Lyons had a 184 (93-91). Jack Bartlett withdrew after nine holes on Monday.
O’Gorman, who had trailed Sioux Falls Lincoln by seven shots after 18 holes, rallied on Tuesday to tie Lincoln after regulation, then beat the Patriots in a two-hole playoff to win the Knights’ eighth state title and first since 2017.
Watertown sophomore Jake Olson won the individual championship at two-under 142, defeating Luke Honner of Sioux Falls Lincoln by three strokes.
