The Walworth County Commissioners held their first regular meeting of the month Tuesday, October 5th with a full agenda.
The one hundred seventy-seven thousand dollar payment due to the Mobridge-Pollock School District was discussed. Walworth County Auditor Eva Cagnones told the commissioners it is a past due bill that needs to be paid.
The commissioners passed a motion to supplement the 2021 budget for several items, including the Mobridge-Pollock School payment, the juvenile boarding fund, and the Highway Secondary Road Fund. Commissioner Rick Cain made that motion.
Discussion on the jail brought up the opt-out and bond issues. State’s Attorney Jamie Hare explained the difference between the two.
Commissioner Cain told Commissioner Kevin Holgard to pursue discussion about jail funding with USDA Rural Economic Development, but Cain also would like to see an actual plan for how to finance operation of the jail once it’s built. Cain does not currently see a bright future for the county three years down the road.
Walworth County Commission meetings are open to the public.
