A Rosebud man convicted of Involuntary Manslaughter has received his punishment from a federal US District Court judge.
45 year old Robert Stands And Looks Back, a/k/a Robert Stands, Jr. was sentenced to 16 months in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
The conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred in Todd County on August 25, 2020. On that date, Stands And Looks Back had been consuming alcohol, and was driving a vehicle on BIA Highway 1 south of Rosebud. Stands And Looks Back was driving southbound when he crossed over into the northbound lane of traffic and struck and killed a man who was lying in the roadway.
This case was investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson prosecuted the case.
