The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks announced this week (Oct. 25, 2021) that the Second Century Habitat Fund has raised $500,000 to support and enhance habitat.
In March, GFP announced a new way for individuals to support habitat and have the chance to win the ultimate hunting vehicle. GFP partnered with the South Dakota Department of Tourism, Can-Am, and R+R Pheasant Hunting to raffle off a Can-Am Defender Max Limited with all proceeds supporting the Second Century Habitat Fund.
In total, there was $474,800 raised through ticket sales. This was when the Fox Family from Madison, SD, provided a donation to reach $500,000 in total proceeds.
“Putting quality habitat on the landscape and providing access to those areas is critical for ensuring our hunting, fishing and trapping traditions will remain strong for future generations,” said Governor Kristi Noem. “Thank you to everyone who participated in this raffle and invested in habitat, access and promotional and educational opportunities for our youth.”
The proceeds from the raffle will support the Second Century Working Lands Program, Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) and woody habitat development across the state.
“Habitat is the foundation to wildlife management and the money raised through this raffle will go directly to improving habitat and public access across the state,” said GFP Secretary, Kevin Robling. “Everyone who enjoys South Dakota’s great outdoor resources is a winner of this raffle.”
The winner of the raffle was Stephan Miller from Rapid City who will be enjoying the ultimate hunting machine out in the field.
