More adoptive families are needed for older children, sibling groups and children who require specialized parenting for medical, developmental or emotional needs throughout South Dakota.
Department of Social Services Secretary Laurie Gill says adoption creates stability, sets the stage for a positive future and nurtures a sense of belonging and stability that is so important in healthy youth development. She says the impact of an adoptive family’s love, commitment and encouragement in these children’s lives is immeasurable.
“The thing about being adopted is it’s amazing,” said one 16-year-old South Dakota youth who now has an adoptive family, “because you finally have a home you’ve been waiting for, for how many years of your life!”
Gill says it’s especially challenging to find forever homes for older children, sibling groups and children with medical conditions or physical, mental or emotional disabilities.
