UPDATE DECEMBER 30, 2021:
A minimum-security state prison inmate who was placed on escape status earlier this week (Dec. 28, 2021) is back in custody.
Inmate Alexander Cook was apprehended in Rapid City yesterday (Dec. 29). Cook failed to return to the Rapid City Community Work Center following his work release shift Monday (Dec. 27).
Failure to return from a work assignment constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
DECEMBER 28, 2021:
A minimum-security state prison inmate has been placed on escape status.
The South Dakota Department of Corrections says inmate Alexander Cook failed to return to the Rapid City Community Work Center following his work release shift yesterday (Dec. 27, 2021). Cook is a white male, age 29. He is 5-feet-7-inches tall and weighs approximately 170 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.
Cook is currently serving a sentence from Pennington County for possession of a controlled substance. If you see Cook or know of his whereabouts, contact law enforcement immediately.
