SkyWest Airlines, doing business as United Express, made its last flights out of Pierre yesterday (Jan. 3, 2022), leaving Denver Air Connection as the sole commercial air carrier in and out of the Pierre Regional Airport as of today (Jan. 4, 2022).
DAC Director of Business Development Jon Coleman, who is also one of the company’s pilots, says their service will remain reliable.
DAC won the Essential Air Service contract to serve Pierre (and Watertown) almost a year ago, but SkyWest decided to stay in the market– something Coleman says isn’t normal.
Coleman says DAC has enjoyed strong passenger boardings in Pierre, even with competition from SkyWest.
The last two years have been rocky for the airline industry as a whole, driven by pandemic-related travel restrictions…
DAC has been averaging nearly 700 passenger enplanements in Pierre (and over 800 enplanements in Watertown) each month since they started providing service to the Pierre Regional Airport in July 2021.
