SIOUX FALLS – Halfway through the first competition for a girls team championship, the Pierre Governors hold an 18-point lead over Canton during the SDHSAA State Wrestling Tournament at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
Pierre has 75 points through Thursday, with Canton next with 57.
Seven of the 10 Governor girls wrestlers will take part in semifinal matches on Friday.
106-pounder Sydney Uhrig pinned Eva Hinkle of Aberdeen Central and Meredith Ramacher of Hot Springs.
At 126, Hattie Baldwin pinned Ula Martin of Aberdeen Central and Sydney Badwound of Spearfish.
Gianna Stangeland pinned 138-pound opponent Julie Pitsenberger of Flandreau, then won a quarterfinal match by forfeit.
At 142, Abbi Lewis took major decision wins over Jasmin Perez of Mobridge-Pollock and Jayden Werlinger of Spearfish.
154-pounder Ireland Templeton had two pins, besting Marieda Kalahar of Rapid City Stevens and Jessica Waln of Lakota Tech.
After a first-round bye, 190-pounder Marlee Shorter pinned Sully Buttes’ Saige Heath.
Defending 285-pound champion Cierra McFarling also had a first-round bye, then pinned Kaylee Miller of Lakota Tech.
Emalee Larson is assured of a top-eight place at 170 pounds after receiving a bye in the second round of wrestlebacks.
