The Pierre Regional Airport was one passenger shy of hitting 1000 enplanements last month (Feb. 2022).
City commissioner Jamie Huizenga says traffic has been steadily increasing for the past year.
When Denver Air Connection first took over the EAS contract for Pierre, there was concern about reduced reliability switching from a major airline to a regional company. Huizenga says DAC has been providing good service for the past eight months.
Now that DAC is the only commercial air carrier serving the Pierre Regional Airport, Huizenga says they will make an adjustment to some flight times next month (April 2022).
DAC currently provides 12 flights per week between Pierre and the Denver International Airport, with there being two flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. The current plan is for those mid-day times– arrival at 1:50pm and departure at 2:25pm CT– to remain the same.
Denver Air is also the sole EAS carrier for the Watertown Regional Airport. The federal Essential Air Service contract for both airports runs through May 31, 2023.
