UPDATE MARCH 8, 2022:
A 69 year old man from Norfolk, NE, died Friday night (March 4, 2022) in a two-vehicle crash three miles east of Box Elder.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates 51 year old Peter Lyon of Edmonds, WA, was driving a 2006 Toyota Tacoma eastbound on Interstate 90 when he lost control. The vehicle went into the median, rolled and came to rest in the left westbound lane. It was struck by a westbound 2017 GMC Acadia.
Dennis Jones, the driver of the Acadia, was pronounced dead at a Rapid City hospital. The passenger, 66 year old Sherrilee Jones, also of Norfolk, NE, was not injured.
Charges are pending against Lyon, who was not injured. Seat belt use by all three people involved is under investigation.

The 69-year-old male driver of the GMC Acadia was pronounced dead at a Rapid City hospital. The two other people were not injured.
Charges are pending against the 51-year-old male driver of the Toyota Tacoma. Seat belt use by all three people involved is under investigation.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
