Two bills passed by this year’s legislature will pay for improvements to state properties in Pierre– the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center (HB1047) and the Capitol Lake Complex (HB1013).
Pierre Mayor Steve Harding says the $12 million in upgrades to the Cultural Heritage Center will benefit the town as well as the state.
Another bill (HB1013) provides $3.5 million for a Master Plan for Capitol Lake and the Veterans Memorials in Pierre. Harding says the plan could build on improvements already being made around the lake.
Harding says a permanent solution needs to be found for the Flaming Fountain.
Both bills have been signed by the Governor.
