The City of Fort Pierre is in the running for an approximately $1.8 million grant to enhance the Tatanka Trail along the Missouri River.
At last night’s (April 4, 2022) City Council meeting, Mayor Gloria Hanson said Phase 1 will be building a pedestrian bridge across opening of the marina to continue the pedestrian trail through the area.
Hanson says it’s a 70% grant, but the 30% match has already been made by the city and state through the new John C. Waldron Memorial Bridge project plaza.
She says the Tatanka Trail enhancement proposal meets important federal Economic Development Administration requirements.
David Reiss with the Central South Dakota Enhancement District says they’re putting together the final details.
Reiss expects to know whether or not Fort Pierre will receive the grant sometime after May 15, 2022.
