At Monday’s (April 11th) meeting of the Mobridge City Council, the Council agreed to spend $35,400.00 to have Rodgers Hardwood Floors of Bismarck refinish the floor at the Scherr-Howe Event Center. The project will include paint lines for three volleyball courts, one basketball court, and a Mobridge Tiger written on the floor in vinyl material.
The Council gave approval for Mayor Gene Cox to sign the State of South Dakota Agreement for Land and Water Conservation Assistance in the amount of $81,865 for Mobridge park improvements.
The second reading of Ordinance #1005 to add to conditional use – the retail sale of new and used automobiles, trucks, boats, and motorcycles was approved.
The Chamber of Commerce approached the Council with a proposal to add permanent electrical power and fiber optic for wi-fi at the Walleye Up statue on the south end of Main Street with both public and private networks that could be utilized for public events including fishing tournaments, concerts, and future development in that area. The Tourism Committee will cover the majority of the cost of installation, working with local vendors Quenzer Electric, MDU, and WRT. The City agreed to pay the monthly electric bill of between $16.00 to $30.00, and the project was approved by the Council.
A chip seal bid of just over $124,000.00 was approved.
Mobridge park staff and wages for 2022 were approved.
Hard Rock Resources on 4th Avenue East petitioned the Council to wave sidewalk requirements as per Ordinance 9-6-5 and Resolution 22-08, and this was approved.
An amendment adding the amount of $1,751.89 to the agreement for professional services for KLJ to re-bid the airport fuel tank project was approved.
Council also approved an agreement with KLJ for miscellaneous engineering services. Finance officer Heather Beck said this will allow the city to hire KLJ on an “on call basis”.
Council gave approval to a building mover’s license application from Bryce’s Mobile Home Movers of Minot, North Dakota.
Council gave the go-ahead to apply for a grant to help fund the pool shade. Finance Officer Beck said more money may need to be raised for the project.
An increase in zoning items costs was approved in the amount of $225.00 to cover the City’s costs to pay the zoning board members as well as admin and publishing.
