APRIL 2022:
A federal judge has sentenced a 42 year old man from McLaughlin convicted of Third Degree Burglary.
Christopher Aaron Miller must spend three years on probation, pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100, and pay restitution in the amount of $3,000.
The conviction stemmed from an incident on September 30, 2019, in McLaughlin, wherein Miller entered a garage at night and broke several windows on a vehicle.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Corson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services.
Miller released from the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following the sentencing.
SEPTEMBER 2021:
A 42 year old man from McLaughlin has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Third Degree Burglary, Intentional Damage to Property, Criminal Trespass and Stalking.
Christopher Aaron Miller pled not guilty.
Court information alleges that between January 1, 2018, and September 14, 2021, in McLaughlin, Miller harassed and stalked two victims. In September 2019, Miller burglarized the victims’ garage and intentionally caused damage to the victims’ vehicle on several occasions.
The maximum penalty if convicted is five years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and payment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Corson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron J. Cook is prosecuting the case.
Miller was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial.
