South Dakota Senators met in Pierre today (April 26, 2022) to set the rules for the impeachment trial of Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg.
Senator David Wheeler of Huron introduced the first resolution.
Senate-President Pro-tem Lee Schoenbeck of Watertown introduced the second resolution.
Schoebeck says this may be the most difficult issue any of them have ever dealt with.
Schoenbeck says the impeachment will be a special proceeding.
Ravnsborg said after his impeachment that he is looking forward to the Senate trial as a chance to “be vindicated.” His attorney and spokesman did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday.
The Senate will return to Pierre June 21, 2022, to start the trial. It takes a two thirds vote to convict.
