The Pierre Regional Airport had over 1200 enplanements last month (April 2022).
City commissioner Jamie Huizenga says traffic has been steadily increasing.
Huizenga says Pierre’s commercial air carrier is performing well.
Denver Air had a strong month at the Watertown Regional Airport as well with 1292 enplanements in April. For the first four months of the year, Denver Air has flown 4611 passengers from Watertown to either Denver or Chicago.
If the Pierre Regional Airport reaches the 10-thousand enplanements mark, the Essential Air Service airport becomes eligible for $1-million in funding from the Federal Aviation Administration.
DAC currently provides 12 flights per week between Pierre and the Denver International Airport, with there being two flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. The company flies non-stop from Watertown to Chicago O’Hare and Denver International Airport. Denver Air’s federal EAS contract for both airports runs through May 31, 2023.
