MAY 6, 2022:
LONDON (AP) — Buckingham Palace has finally answered one of the biggest remaining questions about Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The palace said Friday (May 6, 2022) that Prince Andrew, Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, won’t be on the palace balcony when the monarch greets the public on June 2. The balcony appearance is a centerpiece moment of many royal celebrations. But the build-up to the ceremonies marking Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne have been dogged by questions about whether Andrew, Harry and Meghan would be at such a public event amid scandals and family tensions. Harry said he, Meghan and their two children would travel to the U.K. to join the Jubilee festivities.
MAY 6, 2022:
LONDON (AP) — Queen Elizabeth II will miss the traditional royal garden party season, where she would normally meet with hundreds of people on the grounds of her residences in London and Edinburgh. The 96-year-old monarch will be represented instead by other members of her family, Buckingham Palace said in a statement. Before the pandemic, the queen invited over 30,000 people each year to the gardens of Buckingham Palace or the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. The parties were set to return for the first time in three years starting next week (May 8-14, 2022). The monarch has missed several major events this year and has been carrying out online engagements instead.
