Hardly any place in eastern South Dakota was untouched by Thursday’s (May 12, 2022) wind storm and storm system.
In Vermillion, power went out for about 15 minutes late afternoon. They also said there were branches down and debris–including mailboxes blown down–in town.
From 5pm Thursday before the straight-line winds hit, the temperature in the Sioux Falls area dropped from 94 degrees to 64 degrees. The strong, straight-line wind was full of dirt, turning the western sky a dark milky brown.
