Weather permitting, a portion of Jackson Avenue in Pierre will close today (May 31, 2022) for construction work.
Jackson Avenue, between Park Street and Dakota Avenue, will close to through traffic to allow the city to rebuild that block of street. Local traffic will maintain intermittent access.
The closed section of street is expected to reopen by June 17. Through traffic is encouraged to detour around the area.
The city maintains 80 miles of streets, more than 100 miles of water main, and more than 60 miles of sanitary sewer. Each year, city staff assess the streets, in addition to utilities, sidewalks and curbs to prioritize street maintenance and reconstruction projects.
