North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley released the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court opinion issued today (June 24, 2022):
“The United States Supreme Court has determined that the federal constitution leaves with States the authority to craft and enact laws defining abortion practices.
The ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization shifts abortion regulation away from the courts and onto the shoulders of the people’s elected representatives in the 50 state legislatures.
This office is evaluating the Dobbs opinion in every detail and will give careful consideration to its impact on North Dakota’s abortion laws. By statute, this office has thirty days within which to certify whether the Dobbs decision gives effect to current North Dakota abortion laws that conflicted with previous United States Supreme Court decisions.”
