President Biden has asked Congress to suspend the 18 cent per gallon federal gas tax through September as a way to cut costs for consumers.
South Dakota Transportation Department Secretary Joel Jundt says any cut in that funding could be a problem.
Jundt says there is no guarantee that drivers would see the full benefit.
He says each retailer could then decide how to price a gallon of gas.
Jundt says the overall impact would not be significant.
Many members of Congress were skeptical that the cut would achieve much of a benefit.
