The South Dakota Department of Public Safety is urging people who want to discharge fireworks this Fourth of July holiday to use them in a responsible and safe manner.
Firework sales in South Dakota continue through Tuesday (July 5, 2022) with the final day to legally discharge them being July 10. However, Fire Marshal Paul Merriman says people should make sure they know what their city or county ordinances are in regards to discharging fireworks.
Even with the recent rains, Merriman says hot, dry conditions can still pose a potential risk for those using fireworks. He says if not used properly, fireworks can be dangerous to people, pets and property.
