FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Loved ones say the motorcyclist who was struck by a speeding pickup truck in a hit-and-run crash on a North Dakota interstate Tuesday (July 19, 2022) is making significant progress in recovering from life-threatening injuries. Eric O’Meara was headed south on Interstate 29 when he was hit from behind by the pickup truck. The pickup driver sped off. O’Meara, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, has been hospitalized in intensive care since the crash. His girlfriend, Heather Brouillet, O’Meara has broken ribs, road rash and a severe concussion and was placed on a ventilator. According to officials, the pickup driver later fired at a state trooper after crashing into another vehicle on the interstate. The trooper shot and injured the suspect.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Authorities say a state trooper shot and wounded a Fargo man during a shootout after the man drove into a motorcycle, badly injuring its driver, and fled the scene. They say the 28-year-old man in a pickup truck rear-ended the motorcyclist on Interstate 94 Tuesday evening (July 19, 2022) and fled the scene and later crashed into a another vehicle after fleeing from a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper. Authorities say he exited his vehicle after the crash and began firing a gun. The trooper who had chased him returned fire and shot him twice. The man was treated at a hospital before being taken to jail. The patrol says the motorcycle driver suffered life-threatening injuries.
