A teenage girl is dead after drowning in the James River Friday (July 22, 2022) night about nine miles south of Frankfort.
Spink County Sheriff Frank Krumm says his office got the call around 9pm. He says law enforcement arrived and rescued one of the girls, but her 13 year-old friend went under and did not resurface. Krumm says the victim’s body was recovered around 9:30 Saturday morning about 50 yards downstream from where she was last seen.
The girls were members of a local Hutterite Colony. Their names are not being released.
Krumm says the sheriff’s department was assisted by Game Fish and Parks, the Frankfort and Redfield fire departments, Redfield Ambulance, the Huron Dive Team and Spink County Emergency Management.
