The tower that supports the transmitter for the NOAA Weather Radio in the Pierre area (WXM-26, operating on 162.400 MHz) is being replaced and will be out of service for about two months.
Starting Thursday (July 28, 2022), the weather radio broadcast will be suspended as work is expected to begin. An extended outage of NOAA Weather Radio in Pierre is tentatively anticipated through mid to late September, as the new tower is constructed. Persons receiving weather forecasts, watches, warnings and other information through NOAA Weather Radio can alternatively turn to www.weather.gov/abr, as well as various media outlets, for weather information.
The National Weather Service apologizes for any inconvenience.
