BROOKINGS – South Dakota State is planning to sell beer at athletic events to the general public, starting with this coming season. Previously, alcoholic beverages had only been sold in premium seating areas.
SDSU Athletic Director Justin Sell told the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, “I think the opportunity to allow folks that are buying a single-game ticket or other season ticket holders the opportunity to purchase a beer at our games and contests – by now, it’s an expectation of the fan experience wherever you go.”
Beer sales will begin at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium on September 10, when the Jackrabbits open their home football schedule against UC Davis. Sell also said that he expects tailgating to be an important part of the process.
The Jackrabbits are following the lead of the University of South Dakota, which announced recently that beer will be sold to the general public at USD athletic events this next season.
In June, the South Dakota Board of Regents approved the sale of alcohol at public universities.
