One man was knocked unconscious when one jet ski accidentally hit another yesterday (July 27, 2022) around 6:30pm CT at LaFromboise Island at Pierre.
Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ian Paul says the incident happened at the far east end of the Island on the main Missouri River channel.
Paul says the one jet skier drove into the water after the injured one.
Both jet ski operators were wearing life jackets. Their names have not been released.
Also assisting with the water rescue were the South Dakota Game Fish & Parks Department, Hughes County Sheriff’s Office and South Dakota Central Communications Dispatch Center.

The Pierre Fire Department Rescue Squad was dispatched to a report of a jet ski accident with injuries on the Missouri River at approximately 6:37 pm on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
South Dakota Central Communications Center was able to pin point the location of the accident and relay it to the rescue squad. Rescue immediately deployed a jet ski and a rescue boat from Down’s Marina and located the injured victim on the far east end of LaFramboise Island on the main river channel. Rescue loaded the victim into the rescue boat and transported him back to Down’s Marina to an awaiting ambulance.
The two adult males were recreating on separate jet ski’s when one of the jet skis got too close and struck the adult male on a separate jet ski knocking the victim unconscious. The driver of the other jet ski was able to dive in after the victim and pull him to shore. The driver of the other jet ski was then able to flag down a fishing boat who called 911. Both jet ski operators were wearing life jackets.
The names have not been released.
