JULY 11, 2022:
Authorities are searching for a Brookings man wanted in a weekend stabbing that left another man injured.
Brookings County sheriff’s deputies, Brookings police, SDSU police and the South Dakota Highway Patrol were called to Main Street in Bushnell, South Dakota, just before 12:30 Saturday morning (July 9, 2022).
That’s where 44 year-old James Basham got into an altercation with 26 year-old Derk Hartenhoff of White. During the altercation, Basham produced a knife and stabbed Hartenhoff in the face and shoulder. Hartenhoff was taken to the Brookings hospital by ambulance.
Basham fled the scene before officers arrived. They used a drone and police K-9 to search for him, but had no luck. Basham has a warrant out for his arrest on charges of Aggravated Assault and Disorderly Conduct. Authorities say if you spot Basham, do not approach him, but contact the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
