PIERRE – Big second-half efforts gave victories to both Pierre Governor Soccer teams Thursday over Mitchell at the PILC Soccer Complex.
GIRLS: Pierre 4, Mitchell 3
Ryann Berry scored her second goal of the game with just over a minute left to give Pierre the win after Mitchell had a 3-0 lead in the first minute of the second half. Berry set up the other two goals for Pierre (5-2).
Mia Mullenmeister had a hat trick for Mitchell, scoring in the 16th, 19th and 41st minutes. Lexie Hillmer started Pierreās comeback with a 59th-minute goal on the rebound of a Barry shot. Barry scored off a cross by Eva Flottmeyer in the 64th minute. Brianna Sargent tied the match, set up by Barry, in the 73rd minute.
BOYS: Pierre 8, Mitchell 1
Seven goals by the Governors in the second half, including three by Rylan Derry, broke a halftime draw.
Cesar Ramirez scored in the first half for Pierre (4-2-1), but then Gavin Phillips scored for the Kernels on a penalty kick, just the second goal for Mitchell in their four matches this season.
Ashton Griese then gave the Governors the lead in the first minute of the second half. Derry scored in the 45th and 49th minutes, Griese connected again in the 50th minute, Brady Miller scored in the 56th minute and Derry completed the hat trick with his 11th goal of the season in the 65th minute. Elias Gilk completed the Governor scoring in the 69th minute.
