I know the holidays are a couple of months off, but perhaps you’re already looking at last year’s unopened kitchen gadget and thinking, “I bet I can regift this at Christmas!” But then guilt steps in and you decide instead to donate that priceless piece of kitchen counter hardware to a local charity. Don’t! According to a study, the taboo of regifting is all in the mind of the regifter. Participants in the study who imagined regifting a gift they received thought that the original giver would be more offended than study participants who imagined that their gifts were regifted reported feeling. In other words, the original givers weren’t as upset as the regifters thought they would be.
