WATERTOWN – The Watertown Arrows made the Pierre Governors pay attention early in Friday night’s football clash. But after that, Lincoln Kienholz and the Governors just made the Arrows pay.
Kienholz passed for 309 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 160 yards and three touchdowns in Pierre’s 47-13 win over Watertown at Watertown Stadium.
A first for this season happened just over three and a half minutes into the game when an opponent took the lead on Pierre. Alex Kahre hit Drew Denzer with a 26-yard touchdown pass to give Watertown a 6-0 lead.
Pierre tied the game at 6-6 with 9:17 left in the first half on a 17-yard scamper by Kienholz.
Pierre gained a 13-6 lead when Kienholz hit Cade Kaiser for a 51-yard touchdown pass with 5:17 left in the first half.
Then, on Watertown’s next possession, running back Juven Hudson ran 74 yards for a touchdown and the score was again tied at 13-13.
After that, Pierre (5-0) dominated. Kienholz found Jett Zabel with a 55-yard touchdown pass with 4:25 left in the second quarter, followed by a Kienholz 35-yard touchdown after a scramble with 39 seconds left and Pierre led 27-13 at halftime.
Kienholz and Zabel connected for a six-yard scoring pass at the 5:12 mark of the third quarter. A 28-yard punt return by Jayden Wiebe led to a 43-yard touchdown pass from Kienholz to Kaiser with 29 seconds left in the third quarter.
Kienholz ran for another touchdown from 13 yards with 9:16 remaining.
Kienholz was 17-of-31 for 309 yards passing. Zabel had eight catches and Kaiser caught four. Kienholz also ran for 160 yards. Kienholz now has 23 passing touchdowns this season with 10 rushing.
One setback for Pierre happened to tight end Jackson Edman. Edman, who earlier in the week had announced on social media a commitment to play basketball at Black Hills State, suffered a broken collarbone.
