Here are your Feel Good Friday stories for this week!
1. Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials came to the rescue when a young bull moose became entangled in a volleyball net in Breckenridge recently. Wisely, the rescuers sedated the moose before they tried to untangle him from the net. Then they helped him stand upright so that he could breathe easily while the effects of the drug wore off. The moose then headed back to the woods.
2. A 20-year-old in Oregon named Iverson Poff was adopted, and always hoped to track down his family someday. But instead, they tracked HIM down. His brother found him on Instagram and got in touch. And within 24 hours, Iverson was already on a flight to Utah to meet his mom, brother, and two sisters.
3. A 107-year-old veteran in Colorado named Harold Nelson just got a Silver Star, one of the highest honors for valor. He was shot three times during World War Two . . . got hit in the chest with shrapnel at one point . . . and even went back to keep fighting after he had his appendix removed.
4. A mom in Fort Myers, Florida tried to buy a birthday cake for her three-year-old daughter on Friday. But the grocery store hadn’t gotten any in because of Hurricane Ian. A woman at the bakery tracked her down in the store a few minutes later though, and said she found one in the freezer. She put a tiara on it and wrote “Happy Birthday Anna.” There’s a cute picture of Anna LOVING it. (Here’s the photo.)
5. A deaf dog in North Dakota fell into an open sewer drain on Saturday and wiggled his way into a pipe. But firefighters and city workers dug for three hours and got him out.
6 A cat in the U.K. wandered into a school on picture day, and jumped right up on the seat kids were using. So the photographer took a few glamour shots and gave them to the owner.
7. A herd of cows in Germany adopted a wild boar piglet that got separated from its family. They’ve been taking care of it for about a month.
8. A 10-year-old girl from Ukraine named Agnessa left with her family when Russia invaded, and had to leave her cat behind. But after a VERY big effort from lots of people, she just got him back. They were in Romania before relocating to northern California. And on their flight over, they made friends with a stewardess named Dee Harnish. She stayed in touch and heard about the cat, who’d been with Agnessa’s uncle. So she made some calls and got a charity involved. Then the uncle took the cat to Moldova on his motorcycle, where someone else took it to Romania. A woman vacationing in Greece cut her trip short to go get him. And 7,000 miles later, Agnessa got her cat back.
9. A moose was found stuck between a fence on someone’s property. Environmental conservation officials responded to the late-night call for a moose in distress in Barkhamsted. “At face value it appears the moose is impaled by the fence but in reality, he’s just stuck unable to get his rear legs over and his belly kept him from going backwards,” the post said. The fire department used the jaws of life to cut some of the fence panel and the moose was able to get free. The moose was not injured and ran off into the night.
