FORT PIERRE – No 16th seed facing a top seed in the playoffs can ever have what is called an “easy” draw. But the Stanley County Buffaloes’ first round 9AA football playoff opponent, Wall, presents an especially difficult challenge. SC will meet the Eagles in Wall on Thursday.
Wall, whose head coach is former Stanley County assistant Lex Heathershaw, is 8-0 and averaged 52 points and 365 yards of offense per game in the regular season. Junior quarterback Burk Blasius has completed 83 percent of his passes and has 22 touchdowns with only one interception. Senior receiver Rylan McDonnell, who was a 9A all-state player in 2021, has 21 catches, nine of which are for touchdowns. Only twice in their eight games has Wall had to play a full 48 minutes.
Stanley County is 3-5 and closed the regular season with last Friday’s 42-16 loss at home to Faith.
Buffaloes’ Head Coach Max Foth lauded the play of juniors and co-captains Broch Zeeb and Barret Schweitzer.
Foth reiterated that Wall has exceptional talent.
Foth knows that his team, with most expecting little from it in this game, can play loosely.
Stanley County is in the postseason for the 10th consecutive year. Coverage of Thursday’s game will begin at 7:00 PM on 1060/103.1 KGFX, the KGFX page at the DRG News App, and the KGFX page at drgnews.com, with live and archived video available. DRG Media Group Sports Director David Burrall will call the action.
