WALL – They stalled, used trick plays, and even briefly held a lead. But the Stanley County Buffaloes were still overwhelmed.
Top seed Wall had three touchdowns on the ground from Cedar Amiotte and two passing touchdowns from Burk Blasius in a 58-8 win over Stanley County Thursday in the first round of the 9AA playoffs.
Wall (9-0) scored on their first drive, which ended with a 23-yard touchdown pass from Burk Blasius to his brother Blair.
Stanley County (3-6) then held the ball for nearly seven minutes on an 85-yard drive, which included twice using timeouts to let the clock run. The drive ended with a four-yard touchdown pass from Broch Zeeb to Blaize Frost, and following a two-point pass from Zeeb to Hanson, the 16th-seeded Buffaloes led 8-7 with 2:50 left in the first quarter.
But Amiotte scored from a yard out just 2:14 later and Wall led 15-8 after one quarter.
The Eagles then put the game away with a 30-point second quarter. Amiotte scored on a 28-yard run, Wall scored a safety when Burk Blasius hit Zeeb in his own end zone and forced the ball out of the back of the end zone, Mason Heath hd a 30-yard touchdown run, Amiotte had another 28-yard scoring run and Burk Blasius hit Stran Williams with a 51-yard scoring pass in the last minute of the half and Wall led 45-8 at halftime.
Burk Blasius had a 16-yard scamper with 1:23 left in the third quarter, and the game ended 1:06 later when Zeeb fumbled at his own 12 and Quinn Moon ran in a touchdown.
