DECEMBER 24, 2022:
The water main leak discovered Thursday (Dec. 22, 2022) on West Third Street in Pierre has been repaired. A secondary leak was identified in the area during the repair process. That leak has also been fixed; the impacted area no longer needs to store water; water service has been fully restored.
DECEMBER 23, 2022, UPDATE:
Repairs are going to start today (Dec. 23, 2022) to fix a water line break in Pierre, but the brutal cold will make the repairs challenging.
Yesterday, a water main leak was identified on West Third Street and those in the impacted area were advised to store enough water to last 24 hours. If the leaking pipe deteriorates further before repairs can be made, water service to that area will be cut off until the pipe can be fixed. Approximately 50 households in the LaBarge Court, Harney Court and West Fifth Street areas could be impacted.
Pierre is working to remedy the issue as quickly as possible.
DECEMBER 22, 2022, 2PM UPDATE:
The Pierre Regional Airport is closed for the remainder of the day (Dec. 22, 2022) because airline visibility minimums cannot be met. The City will continue to monitor the situation.

If the leaking pipe deteriorates further before repairs can be made, water service will be lost until the pipe can be fixed. Approximately 50 households in the LaBarge Court, Harney Court and West Fifth Street areas could be impacted. Those identified on the map below and the immediate adjacent area should store water by filling bathtubs, jugs and buckets until a permanent repair can be made. Weather conditions are making repairs very challenging; the City is working to remedy the issue as quickly as possible.

The Pierre Regional Airport will open at 10:45am CT today (Dec. 22, 2022).
DECEMBER 22, 2022:
The Pierre Regional Airport is closed today (Dec. 22, 2022) due to blizzard conditions. The City will assess visibility, access, and runway conditions throughout the day and will reopen the airport as conditions allow.
Trash collection in Pierre scheduled for today has been delayed until Monday. Pierre’s city baling facility will now be open Monday from 8am-5pm.
The City’s Street Department is salting streets, working to keep streets passable, and moving excess snow as conditions allow.
