SIOUX FALLS – Lincoln’s hot start was followed by a Pierre rally Thursday, but the Patriots were still too much.
Lincoln topped Pierre 72-62 to give the Governors their first loss in six games this season.
The Patriots hit seven three-pointers in a 29-point first quarter. Lincoln still led by nine at halftime before the Governors rallied to tie the game in the third quarter. Lincoln then pulled away again.
Tate Schaefer led Lincoln with 23 points, including six three-pointers. Elliot Whitney had 18 points and four three-pointers. 7-foot-1 center and Iowa State commit JT Rock scored 11.
Jackson Edman led Pierre with 14 points. Ben Heisler and Carson Ahartz scored 12 points each. Jacob Mayer scored 10 for Pierre, who was without leading scorer Lincoln Kienholz. Kienholz will play Saturday in the All-American Bowl high school football all-star game in San Antonio, Texas.
