JANUARY 11, 2023:
A Canton woman has been identified as the person who died in a two-vehicle crash Dec. 31, 2022, west of Canton.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates that a 2007 Saturn Vue was southbound on South Dakota Highway 115. As it entered the intersection with U.S. Highway 18, it collided with a 2012 Subaru Forester that was eastbound on U.S. Highway 18.
Rebecca Earll, the 40-year-old driver of the Subaru, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
William Pigg, 57, of Sioux Falls was the driver of the Saturn. He was not wearing a seatbelt, had to be extricated from the vehicle, suffered life-threatening injuries, and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Charges are pending against him.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

One person died and another person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash late Saturday night (Dec. 31, 2022) seven miles west of Canton.
Names of the two people involved have not yet been released.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates that a 2007 Saturn Vue was southbound on South Dakota Highway 115. As it entered the intersection with U.S. Highway 18, it collided with a 2012 Subaru Forester that was eastbound on U.S. Highway 18.

The 57-year-old male driver of the Saturn, who was not wearing a seatbelt, had to be extricated from the vehicle. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.
Charges are pending against the driver of the Saturn.
