Visitor spending in South Dakota last year (2022) set another all-time record.
South Dakota Department of Tourism Deputy Secretary Wanda Goodman says following the extreme record-setting year of 2021, they weren’t sure what to expect in 2022.
Goodman says the new data released today (Jan. 18, 2023) shows tourism activity in South Dakota supports thousands of jobs and generates millions of dollars in state and local tax revenue.
Goodman says they’re focusing on drawing travelers to some of South Dakota’s lesser known attractions.
The annual study conducted by Tourism Economics also shows there were 9.5 million visitors at South Dakota’s state parks and 2.1 million visitors to Custer State Park in 2022, both numbers represent a decrease.
