Thousands of cattle producers are headed to New Orleans for the Cattle Industry Annual Convention, where the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF), a contractor to the Beef Checkoff Program, will offer updates on how checkoff investments have helped drive global demand for U.S. beef to new heights.
USMEF President and CEO Dan Halstrom says global marketing updates will be included in the Checkoff Highlight Session, while the Beef Checkoff’s International Marketing Committee will take a strategic look at the factors driving beef export growth. USMEF will also have information available at its trade show booth, including details on the importance of beef variety meat exports – items such as tongues, livers, tripe and hearts – which help maximize carcass value.
Through November 2022, U.S. beef and beef variety meat exports totaled 1.36 million metric tons, up 3% from the same period in 2021, according to data released by USDA and compiled by USMEF. Export value already set an annual record at $10.9 billion, up 14% year-over-year. Export value equated to more than $450 per head of fed slaughter, up 13% year-over-year.
