Welcome to February! Here are some Feel Good Friday stories to get the month off to a good start…
1. A woman in Nevada smashed through the wall of her shower after she discovered that her cat, Winston, had been WALLED-IN by a contractor earlier that day. She said she heard him meowing from the other side of the wall, and enlisted the help of her boyfriend, and Winston’s favorite snack . . . CHEESE. Once the hole in the wall was big enough, Winston emerged, and he was fine. (Here’s video. In a TikTok, she later called Winston’s nap INSIDE the wall the “king of bad decisions.” )
2. On Friday, a Las Vegas police officer and a bystander bravely pulled a driver from a car crash . . . just seconds before it went up in flames. The LVMPD posted video online. The driver was taken to the hospital, but there’s no word on his condition. It’s also unclear what caused the accident.
3. A month ago, a man in Arizona jumped into the chilly Arizona Canal to save another man and his dog, Smokey Bear. The dog was watching the ducks from the edge, and had fallen in . . . pulling his owner in too. The men reunited last week, and the hero said, “I don’t think I’m a hero. I just think I’m human.”
4. YouTube star Jimmy Donaldson . . . a.k.a., MrBeast . . . is making waves for all the right reasons. He helped 1,000 people see again by getting them cataract surgery. He started with 40 people at homeless shelters and free clinics in Florida. Then a group helped him find more than 950 legally blind people all over the world who couldn’t afford the surgery, which only takes 10 minutes. His video is great, especially the reactions when people see again for the first time. And some got more than just a surgery. He also surprised a few with $10,000 . . . one kid got 50 grand for college . . . and a guy who’s never been able to drive got the surgery, and then a brand new Tesla.
5. Two 12-year-olds in Massachusetts were hiking last Wednesday and found a grenade in a pile of trash. So they took a picture, remembered where they were, and went to get an adult. The town’s chief of police called them “wicked smaht” for how they handled it. It turned out it was a real grenade, but wasn’t live.
6. A small-town hardware store in Kentucky is getting national exposure thanks to the owner’s weird sense of humor. It’s called J-Town Hardware, in the Louisville suburb of Jeffersontown. He used to work there as a teenager, and now owns it. Back then, he started putting silly lines on the sign out front. Things like, “Elvis buys his [paint] here,” and “Our carpet cleaners remove blood.” Now he owns the place and installed a digital sign, so he can go wild with it.
7. A guy from New York found out his wrecked car helped a family escape the war in Ukraine. He was in a wreck, and his insurance company totaled his 2014 Jetta instead of fixing it. But a 28-year-old guy in Ukraine bought it online for $2,000, had it shipped over, fixed it up, and used it to evacuate his wife and two kids. He got in touch with the original owner after finding his name on something in the glove box.
8. A ten-mile stretch of Interstate 70 in Colorado got shut down for five hours on Saturday after a big rig jackknifed in the snow. So a bluegrass band called Elk Range set up on the road and played music while people danced. (Here’s the video. Thankfully, the truck driver wasn’t hurt.)
9. If you’ve got a big birthday or milestone coming up, throw a party. A study found celebrations are good for our mental health and general well-being. It just needs to have these three things: Friends and family . . . food and drinks . . . and it should highlight an important milestone, not just be a random party.
10. A woman in Florida was cleaning out her grandfather’s house after he passed away at 98, and found a tin box hidden in his fireplace with $4,000 in it. She says her family knew he liked to hide money in different spots, but didn’t think it would be that much. Now they’re using a metal detector to search his yard, and already found a bottle full of old coins. (Here’s a video of her finding the tin.)
11. Two Ukrainian refugees are heading to the Super Bowl. A couple near Kansas City sponsored them last year, and they’ve all been living together. They were at the AFC Championship game last week when the Kansas City Chiefs got involved, and gave BOTH couples tickets to the big game.
12. A woman in Georgia had to deliver her own baby while her husband was rushing her to the hospital and got stuck in traffic. It happened in November, but she just posted footage from it. They eventually got a police escort. Both mom and baby are both doing great. (Here’s the video.)
13. Two employees at a DoubleTree Hilton hotel in Montreal went the extra mile to help a woman who showed up crying. She and her boyfriend had just broken up the day before she was supposed to fly home, and he booted her out of his place. To his credit, he got her a hotel room but booked it for the wrong night. The employees hooked her up with a discounted room, free snacks, and gave her a sympathy card. She posted a video on TikTok, and Hilton responded. They said they’d already shared the story with their whole team.
