AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — As rising temperatures offered some hope for frustrated Texans shivering in their homes days after losing power in a deadly winter storm, another wave of frigid weather was taking aim at the northern U.S. Austin Mayor Kirk Watson says the duration of the icy storm that has plagued Texas and other southern states since this week has made it challenging to restore power. The storm is blamed for at least 10 deaths across Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. A wave of Arctic air is forecast to target New England with the coldest weather in decades starting Friday (Feb. 3, 2023). Wind chills could plunge to minus 50 degrees or lower.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Forecasters say bands of sleet already blamed for six deaths are causing dangerous conditions for a third day in several Southern states. Several rounds of mixed precipitation, including freezing rain and sleet, are in store for many areas through Wednesday (Feb. 1, 2023) as watches and warnings stretched from Texas to West Virginia. More than 1,400 flights scheduled for Wednesday were canceled. The list for cancelations included both major airports in Dallas and airports in Austin, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee. Emergency responders rushed to hundreds of auto collisions across Texas this week in which least six people died in separate crashes on slick roads.

DALLAS (AP) — Winter weather is bringing ice to Texas and nearby states, causing the cancellation of more than 980 flights and delays to nearly 800 more. Numerous auto collisions were reported in Austin, Texas, with at least one fatality reported. Tracking service FlightAware says more than 500 flights to or from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and nearly 125 to or from Dallas Love Field were canceled or delayed Tuesday (Jan. 31, 2023). The storm began Monday as part of an expected several rounds of wintry precipitation through Wednesday across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee. A winter weather advisory is in place into much of Kentucky, West Virginia and southern parts of Indiana and Ohio.
