House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member David Scott is pleased to announce the spring intern for the Democratic staff of the House Agriculture Committee.
Kayle Lauck is a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame studying Political Science with minors in Sustainability; Education, Schooling, and Society; and Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. Originally from South Dakota, Kayle became involved in agriculture through her time on her grandparents’ farm and continued her interest through participation in 4-H and FFA. In college, Kayle stays involved with South Dakota agriculture through her work for Dr. Andrea Bjornestad with SDSU Extension. She manages a team of trained QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) instructors and schedules suicide prevention trainings with agricultural businesses and organizations across the state. On Notre Dame’s campus, she serves as a media manager for Dr. Paul Winters, an agricultural economist in the Keough School of Global Affairs, and a research assistant for Dr. Debra Javeline, a political science professor studying self-recovery and resilience after natural disasters. Kayle is interested in learning about sustainable food systems, disaster recovery support, and rural development during her time with the Committee and hopes to learn more about what happens behind the scenes in passing the farm bill.
