When South Dakota Legislators adjourn this afternoon today (Feb. 7, 2023), they will have completed half of the 38-day legislative session.
At 7:45 a.m. (CT), the House Health and Services Committee is scheduled to hear bills on two hot-button topics– marijuana and abortion.
The first marijuana bill would require a practitioner’s assessment of a patient in a licensed healthcare facility to obtain a medical cannabis card. (HB 1172)
The other marijuana bill would require a physician and a patient to have a bona fide doctor-patient relationship and require a medical examination before the patient could obtain a medical cannabis card. (HB 1129)
The committee is also scheduled to hear a bill that would only allow medically necessary abortions to save the life of the mother if conducted surgically or medically in a hospital. (HB 1169).
At 10 a.m., the Senate Commerce and Energy Committee considers a bill to protect workers at the new Amazon warehouse facility in Sioux Falls. (SB 178).
The House and Senate go into session at 2 p.m.
