WASHINGTON (AP) — Senators who have been arguing over how much money to give the IRS and how it should be spent found at least one point of unanimity as they considered President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the agency on Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2023). Both sides wished Danny Werfel good luck with what could be the worst job in Washington. Werfel pledged not to increase tax audits on businesses and households making less than $400,000 per year as he faced rounds of questions before the Senate Finance Committee. Legislators in both parties warned that the agency is never going to be popular given its tax-collecting mission and poor customer service in recent years.
