Time for another lineup of Feel Good Friday stories!
1. A newly adopted dog named Bailey who went missing from her home was found two days later. She walked 10 miles to the Animal League of El Paso shelter, where she had formerly lived, and rang the doorbell at 1:42 a.m. A shelter staff member was alerted by the Ring doorbell and checked the camera. There was Bailey, waiting to be let inside. The staff member rushed over and brought Bailey in for the night. She has now been reunited with her family.
2. A TV station in Chicago did a story on a guy named Ed Berthold, who’s still bowling at age 103. He was a pilot in World War Two and got stranded in Iceland. So he and his buddies passed the time by bowling on ice. Now he’s still at it 80 years later.
3. A bunch of Valentine’s Day stories have been rolling in: A couple on Long Island renewed their wedding vows after 72 years of marriage . . .A couple in Phoenix officially called off their divorce on Valentine’s Day, and decided they’re not “giving up on love” yet. A couple in Georgia released footage from their Ring doorbell camera that’s caught every major milestone in their relationship . . . from their first date to the guy carrying the woman across the threshold after they got married.
4. A mom in Missouri went on Facebook looking to PAY someone to hang out with her 24-year-old son who has Down syndrome. But instead, tons of people got in touch and said they’d love to be his friend. He’s into video games, so a nonprofit got involved on Saturday, and gave him a new 65-inch TV. Now he keeps asking his parents if they’re jealous, because he has so many friends.
5. A South African woman and a Canadian man just broke the Guinness World Record for the longest underwater kiss for valentine’s day. The couple, Beth and Miles, they traveled to the Maldives to do it and kissed underwater for 4 minutes and 6 seconds. It took them three days of practicing to achieve it.
6. A TikTok went viral recently, where a five-year-old girl from Nebraska asked her grandfather to go to a daddy-daughter Valentine’s Day dance . . . because her dad passed away a few years ago. Grandpa was THRILLED to accept . . . and now, the girl’s mother posted some footage of her and grandpa all dolled up for the dance.
7. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue in England said in a twitter post that crews responded to a scene when a horse became stuck in neck-deep waterway. Firefighters borrowed a piece of heavy machinery from a farmer in order to make a successful rescue. The crews were able to hoist the stuck horse to safety.
8. There’s a high school freshman in South Carolina named Carson who serves as the equipment manager for the JV basketball team. And the coaches surprised him recently by putting him in the game. Carson has Down syndrome, and he never expected to actually play. But when he heard his name called, he was thrilled . . . he ran around the gym hyping up the crowd . . . and he even made a basket.
9. A coalition of North Carolina volunteers are headed to Turkey with tens of thousands of pounds of food and supplies for the survivors of the devastating earthquake that hit the region. The supplies include a mammoth tent once used for church services and now being repurposed as an emergency shelter for up to 4,000 people. The effort is being organized by Hearts with Hands, Trinity Baptist Church and Ralph Sexton Ministries. The volunteers and their supplies plan to fly out on a cargo plane next week.
10. A woman in Ohio named Megan has a grandfather who struggles to speak because he has advanced Parkinson’s. So she gave him a sound box with an old recording of him saying “I love you, Megan.” (Here’s video.)
11. Firefighters in Massachusetts rescued a dog from a FROZEN pond last weekend. They think the dog was in the icy water for about 20 minutes, but thankfully the dog is in good condition and will recover fully.
12. Five Asian small-clawed otters at the Living Shores Aquarium in New Hampshire are using their little paws to paint valentines. The aquarium calls their work “Ottergrams,” and some of them will be sent to hospital patients today.
13. A student at Auburn University made a full-court PUTT during their basketball game against Alabama on Saturday. He had to putt a golf ball 94 feet to win a car, and nailed it. A Toyota dealership sponsored the whole thing. No word on what type of car he’s getting. But it’ll be better than what he had before, which was NO car.
